Provides confidential shelter, support, and advocacy to women and children in crisis on a twenty-four hour basis. The home also provides emergency shelter to transient women and their children, and acts as an emergency foster home for the Dept. of Health and Social Services. Outreach services include home visits, Youth Centre activities, and a weekly childcare drop-in program.

Provides a long-term and affordable housing option, with minimum supports, to single adults.

Brings inadequate residential dwellings up to health and safety standards, which helps to avoid the risk of homelessness; modifies homes and rental units for persons with disabilities and seniors having difficulties with day-to-day activities.

Assists and supports young adults 18 to 30 in distress, providing food, counselling, and a supportive atmosphere with a well-trained team.

Helping clients with serious mental illness obtain and retain appropriate housing through one-on-one casework is the service’s main focus. Many clients living with mental illness also live with addictions, developmental disability, physical disability, serious physical health problems, or a history of abuse. Annually 540 clients receive short-term assistance to help them secure housing and 260 clients are in a long-term case management program to help them retain their housing.

Provides programs and services to those involved, or at risk of becoming involved, with the criminal justice system. Among the programs and services offered are Lavers House, a co-ed community residential facility for offenders from provincial and federal institutions, the Intermittent Sentence Program, Fine Options, Atlantic Substance Abuse Program, Cage you Rage, and Community Links.

Distress Centres provide 24 hour telephone support, crisis intervention, and referral to other agencies where appropriate, for people in distress. The telephones are answered by caring volunteers who have been carefully screened and trained.

Provides stable housing, meaningful employment, and activities that challenge and empower growth. Provides programs and services to help people make major changes and improvements in their lives and ultimately to make a better future for themselves. It stresses a 'hand up' rather than a 'hand out' approach. Provides shelter and drop-in and counselling for substance abuse and addictions.

Works for decent and affordable housing, jobs and liveable incomes, community and recreational facilities, parkspace, safer streets and community-based neighbourhood planning.
